Academic SCILLS is a self-contained special education classroom in which we work on Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and life/social skills. We use a multi-sensory approach to master important skills, and activities are designed to engage students of varying abilities.
In the ASCILLS classroom, we use research-based curricula for our academic classes, such as Read Naturally, Read Live, Write from the Beginning, and Saxon Math.
I am a 26 year resident of Arizona, originally from Iowa. My husband and I live in Mesa, and all three of our adult daughters are native Arizonans. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa (GO HAWKS!!), and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts. This is my 11th year as a SCILLS teacher with GPS, all of them at South Valley Junior High.
